Why is the Kardashian Family So Irresistible to Viewers?

Updated on May 13, 2013

The US TV show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” became popular with viewers soon after it first aired in 2007. The reality show covers the never-ending escapades of the Kardashian family, with a focus on the three sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney. Viewers enjoy a real look into celebrity lifestyles and likely enjoy controversies that surround the family members. These two reasons make the Kardashian family irresistible to viewers worldwide.

Kim Kardashian at Center Stage

Undoubtedly, the most famous of the sisters is Kim Kardashian. The TV show follows the 32-year-old socialite as she frequents Los Angeles and Miami hot-spots in the latest fashions. She undoubtedly receives the most airtime in the one-hour episodes of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” She is an obvious key player in the spin-off “Kourtney and Kim Take New York,” as well (previously titled “Kourtney and Kim Take Miami”).

Viewers cannot seem to get enough of Kim. Perhaps one reason for her popularity is the drama that always surrounds her. In 2011, she married basketball player Kris Humphries in a flamboyant California wedding that gave her fans all of the glitz they desire from Hollywood. After just 72 days of marriage, Kim filed for divorce, claiming irreconcilable differences.

The shortness of the wedding was shocking to many viewers, who then watched her reality TV series to see the drama unfold there. Now Kim is pregnant with the baby of musician Kanye West. Perhaps TV fans think they experience Kim’s crises alongside her.

Khloe Kardashian: Strength with Controversy

At 28 years of age, Khloe is younger than Kim yet arguably has the strongest personality of the three main sisters. In “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” she often uses foul language as she criticizes her sisters and makes family career decisions. She tends to be direct in her conversation style, as well.

Viewers often mock Khloe for looking differently than Kim and Kourtney. She has a larger frame than her two sisters do. There is widespread speculation she is not the birth daughter of Robert Kardashian because she looks different from his other children.

The controversy, which the Kardashian family denies, has been a topic of conversation many times on the reality TV show. Khloe also has a TV show with her husband Lamar Odom, called “Khloe & Lamar.”

Kourtney Kardashian has Family Drama

Perhaps viewers gravitate to Kourtney Kardashian because they understand her struggles to balance a career with being a mom. She joins Kim and Khloe in designing their fashion lines and running their D-A-S-H boutique while also taking care of her two children. She is the only one of the three main sisters to be a mother herself.

At 33-years-old, Kourtney is the oldest of the three main sisters. She and longtime boyfriend Scott Disick have frequent arguments, which play out on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” His drinking issues have caused tension between the couple and Kourtney’s sisters speak out publicly about the alcohol problems on the show.
