What Is The LinkedIn Today Blog?

LinkedIn Today is a great social news blog to follow regularly. Like its parent professional network LinkedIn, the blog focuses on sharing business content. Anyone who already has a LinkedIn account has access to the blog and therefore able to use the tool to stay current on trends in specific industries.

LinkedIn is a free-to-join social network website. The blog is located within the top menu of LinkedIn. Log into the website and then hover over the word News in the top menu. Next, select the LinkedIn Today option from the drop-down menu.

Great Reasons to Use the Blog

1. Customized News

Use the blog to stay current on business trends. Obviously, site users should sign in regularly as computer-related industries and many others frequently have new trends and updates.

LinkedIn Today has the great ability to cater the day’s top news stories that appear to the individual user, based on his or her profile. Based on factors such as profile description and the groups that person follows, LinkedIn suggests industries for the user to follow. Industries are diverse, ranging from Marketing & Advertising to Oil & Energy.

I chose two Industries of interest to follow and the platform suggested four more to me. I found them relevant to my work as a freelance writer and added to my Follow list. Now, my page shows the latest news stories collected from only these Industries. My news is personalized to me.

To customize LinkedIn Today:

  • Go to the blog.
  • Click the cog-shaped widget on the top-right hand corner of the screen.
  • Click the blue +Follow button under the "Suggestions for You" header if of interest
  • Peruse the list of all industries below the suggested list and press the +Follow buttons for any relevant options.

2. Business Ideas

A great way to get business ideas is by browsing the personalized news feed. Read the trending topics to prompt “aha” moments for his or her job or career. Perhaps the author has missed a key point that can be expanded on by a freelance writer who reads the article posted on the LinkedIn Today news feed. Say current to avoid missed opportunities and inspire new business ideas.

Did You Know?

  • The blog received a makeover on July 16, creating a fresher look and easier views of content.
  • Users have two views to choose from: A feed design or a magazine layout.
  • A click of the mouse to the buttons (upper right-hand corner) instantly changes LinkedIn Today's appearance.

3. Social Interests

Staying current on the professional front can also help a person in his or her social life.

When a LinkedIn user stays current on the news, he or she is often able to use the tidbits as great conversation starters at parties, coffee dates and even online at social media networks. As well, the user helps prevent being left out of the loop in discussions in-person and online.
