Your Hubs

The comments section of your hub is a valuable one at HubPages.

When you first assemble the capsules and add text to the hub, you might get a few remarks or a heck of a lot of comments! That's right, I said 'heck'.

Whether you get two comments or twenty, there are several reasons to respond to remarks left by hubbers on your published piece.

Increase Page Views

A key reason to respond to remarks on your hubs is to increase page views.

When hubbers jot down a few words on your hub, they automatically subscribe to "follow" the comments box. They are notified by email of any further remarks that are left. When you as the author respond to a remark on your hub, the previous commentators receive email notification of the remark, unless they have clicked the "unfollow" button.

Many times, hubbers return to a hub to see what the author writes in response to their own views of the hub. I know I do! Sometimes in my remarks I will ask the hubber a question about the subject matter or offer a personal view that may be different than that of the author. I later return to the hub to read the response. There is an additional page view earned for the author. Given that HubPages income is largely based on page views, the return to the page is a good thing!

Acknowledge Your Readers

Another great reason to respond to remarks on your hubs is to acknowledge the hubbers who read your work. Remember that people who follow you on HubPages are not obligated to read every piece that you publish. Also, remember that your readers are busy, just like you.

You show respect for your readers when you respond to their words and answer any questions they leave for you on the hub. Take time to acknowledge your readers as they took time to read your work.

Remember the time you published the hub that you were sure would get several views, only to watch it receive few views and even fewer written responses? Likely you were disappointed if you put hard work into that piece. Respond to your readers who DO leave remarks as they are not obligated to do so and it is nice to reach out to people who are interested in your work.

Provide Clarification for Readers

Clarification Purposes

Another reason to respond to remarks is to clarify details for your readers.

Perhaps some remarks are questions for you. Other people may offer tips on how to improve your hub or suggest a detail that you may have missed upon sitting down to write the hub.

Also, use the suggested tips and add-ons from your readers. By adding in details suggested by other hubbers, you strengthen your hub. While you are modifying your hub, proofread your work for grammar and spelling mistakes. Ensure your photos are posted with correct attribution and that the summary section is complete.

Yes, reading and responding to comments has just helped you to improve your hub!

Your Responses

The comments section is useful for you at HubPages, so make the most of it! Respond to remarks, when you have time. Your followers do understand that you cannot always immediately respond to their words. You respond when you are able to do so; some days are so busy! More important than when you respond is that you DO respond to them. Acknowledge your readers, learn from insight they offer you about your hubs, and increase page views along the way. Keep writing and keep learning!
