How to Make Monday Mornings More Fun

Updated on November 16, 2013

The Dread of Monday Morning

For people who work the Monday to Friday schedule, Monday morning may be one of the most dreaded parts of the weekly routine.

Monday represents the end of the weekend, the two days when your time is spent how you want it to be spent. You relax or get activities finished on weekends. When the morning comes, it represents the start to five days of work. If you don't like your job very much, the morning can be dreaded even more.

Make your Monday AM hours more fun to help finish your weekend on a good note and start your work week off in a great way! These suggestions are not expensive and will put a smile on your face!

Liven Up Your Cup of Caffeine

If you enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, you likely need an extra shot of caffeine on Monday morning to get you back into the work routine.

Liven up your cup of coffee to give yourself a little push to get through the day. Think of the caffeine as your reward for getting to work and as a way to pamper yourself.

Easy ways to make your cup of coffee a little more gourmet are:

  • Add some cocoa powder or chocolate syrup to make your coffee taste like a mocha.
  • Treat yourself to a Starbucks coffee instead of making your own brew. You deserve the treat! Also, the Starbucks blend may be more deluxe than you normally allow yourself.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to give a bit of kick to your cup.

Leave a Note for a Friend

Another way to make your Monday morning more fun is to help brighten a friend's day.

Leave a note for a friend on a social media network with an uplifting message. The words can be as simple as "Have a great day" or "Thinking of you".

Not only will you help a friend to feel special, you will also smile as you know that you are helping someone else to feel good!

Have a Musical Morning

Make Monday morning more fun by playing some upbeat music as you get ready for work. Turn on your favorite radio station or turn up your old-school80's music that you love so much. You're allowed to play your guilty pleasure songs while you get dressed for work!

Do you have a partner or other household member that you don't want to wake up in the morning with the loud tunes? Play the music through your headphones while you brush your hair and perform your other morning rituals. The music will help energize your spirits and get you set for the day!

If you drive to work, continue to play uplifting songs in the car to keep you in a great mood. Monday mornings haven't got anything on your positive attitude!

Bring Treats to Work

Another great way to add some fun is to bring treats to work for you and your co-workers. Stop by the local coffee shop on the way to the office and pick up some bite-size snacks for the people you work with. Chances are that at least a few of your co-workers could use the perk of a flavorful treat on Monday morning. You will be the hit of the office!

For people who work alone, set aside a treat just for you to have at some point during your day. You are allowed a treat on Monday to help you get through it!

Be Kind to Yourself

Be kind to yourself when Monday morning arrives. Yes, the weekend is over, but there will be another one coming next week. Allow yourself some treats to help you get through the day, whether you decide to have a deluxe version of your regular cup of coffee or pair it with a small sweet treat. Get dressed for work in the morning with some up-tempo music to help lift your spirits.

Remember, you will get through this Monday morning! Now take another sip of coffee and get going or you'll be late for work!
