Fashion for Women

Calling all ladies! Get set to don the latest fashion trends this summer 2012. There are many hot trends emerging from the runway that are wearable for summer. Trends include flared pants, color-blocking and large floral prints. Get in style with this summer fashion guide!

Flared Pants

Flared pants continue to be a fashion trend for women this summer, staying current after their return to the runway in the spring season. The trousers are high-waisted in 2012.

For a flattering look on several body shapes, wear the pants fitted at the waist and thigh, while widened from the knees downward. Elongate the look of the legs by extending the hem to floor length.

For women with curvy figures, avoid pockets as they accentuate the hips. Pockets add bulk at the hips and draw attention to the area. With optimal fit, flared pants create a balanced look that flatters the female body. Fabrics can be dressy silks or relaxed denim.

Color-Blocking For Summer Fashion 2012

The color-blocking technique is hot for the 2012 summer season. Chances are good that even if you do not know its meaning, you have at least heard the term mentioned this year. The runways saw the color-blocking fashion trend applied to clothes, shoes and accessories.

Color-blocking refers to the pairing of large, bright patches of colors that appear dissimilar but actually complement one another. During the spring/summer 2012 New York Fashion Week, high-end designer Peter Som used color-blocking within his collection. In one outfit, he pairs a bold yellow skirt with deep blue blouse and vibrant red necklace. The bold arrangement of color draws the eye and adds interest to the outfit.

For women who choose not to embrace the blocks of color, black-and-white color blocking can be used instead for the summer outfit.

Fun Footwear: Boat Shoes

A key fashion trend for summer in footwear is boat shoes.

Deck shoes, as they are endearingly called, are in style for both men and women in 2012. The sunny season sees fantastic colors for women's deck shoes, utilizing the color-blocking technique.

Boat shoes are a relaxed look and a comfy alternative to heels for women. Pair a funky colored pair of boat shoes with a skirt just above knee-length to show off the legs during the warmer weather. The shoes better suit shorter skirts than long maxi skirts.

Try a leather shoe for a dressy occasion and a canvas boat shoe for a relaxed walk.

Floral Prints are Fashion Trends

While color-blocking is popular, an assortment of floral prints on women's clothing is another trend for summer 2012.

Florals are a feminine look, whether the pattern for a fitted blouse or a fun pair of pants. Designers such as Altuzarra and Peter Som created dresses for their spring/summer collections that combine floral prints with the color-blocking technique.

Designer Peter Som's Spring/Summer 2012 collection that graced the runway for New York Fashion week mixes large floral patterns with bold colors and bright whites.

Geometric Prints

Another pattern that is a trend for summer 2012 is geometric prints for clothing. Geometric print dresses are fun and eye-catching. They are also a vintage flair. Dresses that adorn the geometric print are versatile as they can be paired with heels for the office or with a colorful wedge for a coffee date.

Colors for the prints vary, from black-and-white to bright shades of reds and yellows.
